31st Jan 2013 Grand Montets

The last day of the month and what a month it has been,  Last night we had about 30 cm of powder fall so we had an early start and hit Grand Montets  to get first bins.

The Strong wind slowed down the lifts today and when we finally made it to the top Of Grandmontes the strong wind had blown most of the powder away.

We were lucky enough to fins some protected areas and managed to get a few nice photos and some beautiful lines with an amazing backdrop of Argantere Glacier.IMG_0705 6IMG_0664 2 IMG_0656 4 IMG_0588 1 IMG_0575 5

26th Jan 2013: Freeride World Tour Chamonix

Today the Third stop of the tour lands in Chamonix with local Jonathan Charlet snowboarder puts down one of the best runs to score him the podium win in his home town. The Competition was harsh many of the first riders taking big spills on the top section wiping them out of chance for victory.

IMG_0382 18

The face this north facing the snow was fresh powder with the last snow 3 days ago. Du to the nature of this terrain its on of the peaks in Chamonix that get left with no tracks as it requires a hike for such a small section of a run. But when this face is on its some of the nicest lines you can have in Chamonix right at the doorstep. A few athletes mentioned the hike up was quite tough and demanding and it does get steep.

Despite the biter cold temperature it was an amazing day here in chamonix.

The Daily Dump Snow Report

25th Jan 2013  when everything gets tracked out you have to hike a little bit. Today we managed to find some clean lines near Flegere. The snow still soft with fresh powder about. A low inversion cloud rising up the valley swamped the resort but up high all was good.

Tomorrow the Free Ride World Tour Hits Chamonix, the conditions look great and an amazing venue has been set viewable from Flegere. Expect to see locals Jonathan Charlet and Aurelien Ducroz sending it in a big way.

Ski Breezy ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú catered chalet accommodation ChamonixThe time of year has arrived when the weather gets warm again. Having had poor weather for a lot of the season in Chamonix including very cold temperatures, high winds and frequent overcast periods with snow, Spring is finally here. More stable weather has meant that backcountry skiing and snowboarding is well and truly here. Today three of us climbed up to Helbronner from the Aig du Midi as a bit of practice at altitude. A mountain guide friend was doing the same with a small group who head off on the Haute Route over to Zermatt tomorrow. A 7 day tour from Chamonix staying in Mountain Refuges.

Ski Breezy ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú independent catered chalet accommodation ChamonixChamonix is a great valley to explore for touring either with skins and skis or show shoes and snowboard. Base yourself in a cosy catered chalet like Ski Breezy to get advice on what the snow conditions are like in different parts of the valley. Ask about hiring a High Mountain Guide to show you the ropes and make sure you get up and down safely.

For those who prefer to make full use of the lift system then spring skiing and boarding means that a slightly later start in the mornings gives a little more time for the snow to soften up. By mid afternoon the sunny slopes are starting to get a bit slushy, great for boarders and telemarkers but less fun on alpine skis. So early apr?ɬ®s ski on a terrace in the sun could be in order or even a rock climb or two at the roadside crag of Lac Gailands. The north facing domain of Grand Montets keeps it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s snow longer as it is less affected by the sun, great snow there at the moment.
This is a great time of year in Chamonix as the town slows down a little. It is noticeable as you walk down the main street as people meander and chill out rather than strut on a mission to get as much skiing in as the daylight allows.

Check out last minute Chamonix accommodation offers and ski deals with Ski Breezy to top up the tan and grab the last of the ski season the comfort of a cosy catered chalet. Fine food and flowing wine.

This Year’s competition The 21st edition of the Boss des Bosses .

http://www.bossdesbosses.co.uk?ref=cgw

Wednesday 17th March, Grande Montets

Everything is preparing itself nicely for the 2010 edition of the Boss des Bosses. We are just praying for the sunshine now and all will be righteous. The DJs are forming an orderly queue to the left and the teams are lining up on the right. The new Poster’s should be up in resort this week and we have finally managed to update the website, the only thing missing now is the Beer and we are good to go. Looking forward to seeing you all again, look for info in resort for coaches. I will try to get as much info up on here as possible.

Last Year’s Competition

The weather turned warm hailing the beginning of spring and the people came from far and wide in the largest gathering so far. Music was provided by a lot of Chamonix DJ s including Adam, Jimbo, Corin, Joe V, a rare return to the Boss des Bosses by Magnus Asberg and some guys from Paris on the Black Crows ticket. All ’round great Tunes were had.

The course of soft bumps was ripped by all and sundry and the addition of a couple of Kickers in the top section by Plake added a lot of exciting action.

There has been much discussion over the past few years over the wisdom of having a machine built course, One person who was very vocal on the subject was Glen Plake, who this year put his time where his mouth was and spent the week preceding the comp helping out with the course building. I think the result was great, coupled with excellent snow conditions we saw one of the best courses for some time. Adam Johnston and his team put in some great kickers at the bottom and a new profiled landing completed a formula that should be kept for the future.

So many old faces made it back this year to celebrate 20 years of mayhem not least a lot of crew from Verbier who came four coaches strong and dressed in some of the best fancy dress ever seen. We may well be awarding them a posthumous trophy for there efforts. A team strip award should also be mentoined for the “Team Courch” bibs from Courchevel.

The qualifying rounds were fiercely fought and resulted in the same final line up that we are becoming used to of Chamonix and Zermatt. This was slightly controversial as Verbier had won both their heats and beaten Zermatt 7-6 in the heats. However it is cumulative point that puts a team forward and I was forced to stick to the rules even ‘tho this seemed slightly unfair. We will try and let you ski Val d’Isere first next year.

Zermatt beat Chamonix to become the 2009 champions, Verbier beat Meribel 8-5 to become runners up and Val d’Isere beat Courchevel into 5th place.

I would like to thank everybody who helped to make the day such a success especially Jon Trigell for his work on the mic and Phil Martin for his Judge Marshaling. Adam Johnston for all his hard work over the past months, the Dynamic lives BBQ, Jamie from Hip Chalets, Le Vert Shooters bar, Black Crows Ski Test, Extreme energy drinks for their continuing support and MTC, Jacks bar and Freeride in Meribel for making those coaches happen.

Ski Breezy ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú catered chalet accommodation ChamonixIf your ideal holiday skiing or snowboarding is to be able to ski out the door and cruise kilometers of perfectly groomed pistes all day without doing the same run twice then perhaps Chamonix is not the perfect destination.

Ski Breezy ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú independent catered chalet accommodation ChamonixA couple staying at Ski Breezy commented just yesterday that Chamonix is unlike anywhere they have been before. At first it seemed a bit “disjointed” and “unconnected”. After the third day skiing in a different resort they now love it. “Each resort has a completely different feel to it and there is plenty of terrain in each area to go at for a day.” With the added bonus of Courmayeur and Verbier being included on the MBU Pass you can even ski or snowboard in a different country altogether.

Ski Breezy ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú independent catered chalet accommodation ChamonixChamonix is a real town with shops to suit everyone. There are at least 6 exhibitions running through the season, regular ice hockey matches, ski and snowboarding events from slalom competitions to radical off piste freestyle events. Not to mention the Saturday morning market and the roast chicken stall, a must for a piste picnic with olive bread.

So if you think that Chamonix is just for the hard core then think again!

Ski Breezy offers quality catered chalet accommodation. The chalet layout lends itself perfectly for families, groups, couples and individuals. The food is wholesome home cooking accompanied by flowing wine. The sound local knowledge of your hosts, Breezy and Alun, will help you get the most out of your precious holiday no matter how long or short it is or what standard of skier or snowboarder you are.
