Rewiring An Old Home

November 5th, 2010

Local building codes require a certain number of electrical outlets in a room. However, some electricians will slap the receptacles into the walls in an unattractive configuration when you consider where the phone and cable jacks are going. Tell your electrician exactly where you want the outlets and jacks to be (and how high you want them aswell). This is especially true if you have an idea where you want your furniture to go and you want to hide the outlets and jacks behind the furniture.

There are two kinds of electricians: high-voltage and low-voltage. High-voltage electricians are probably what you think of when you think of an electrician. However, high-voltage electricians usually don’t handle the low-voltage stuff. What’s low-voltage? Phone, cable, sound, and security system are handled by a low-voltage electrician.

Pick out your door bell early and specify exactly where you want the push button and the chime to be located. If you don’t tell the electrician where you want it, you may find that your definition of next to the front door is significantly different from his!

We teach riders how to be self-aware of their body’s movements and constraints and gradually retrain any performance hindering habits.

a) Right now start standing equally on both feet. Before you even start your season we recommend you start considering your stance. You will find in day to day situations that you prefer to stand on one foot more than the other. To ride the board effectively it’s necessary to have equal pressure between both feet. By simply making yourself stand equally in whatever you are doing it will start to help train your body for better, more controlled riding this season.

b) Experiment with stance. Looking closely at what happens to the rest of your body when you stand on different parts of the foot (while trying to remain central on the board at all times) will help you become more aware of why certain things are happening when you ride and what changes you might have to implement.

Consider these electrical issues now so that you don’t face expensive change orders later during your renovation project.

Of course, the electrician handles the installation of high-voltage wiring inside the house, receptacles, switches, and circuit breaker boxes. But did you know the electrician is also usually in charge installing these items: door bell and chime, ceiling fans, light fixtures, outlets for all appliances (including washer/dryer)?

Your electrician will ask you what size of service you want in your house. Without going into too much depth, the prevailing school of thought is that you should install a larger service than you need presently. This is in case you want to finish some rooms off later or need more power for any reason. It doesn’t cost that much more to get a higher service now, but it costs a lot more to go back and add it later. I have150 amp service in my five bedroom house, but I probably could have gotten away with 100 amp service. Ask your electrician to explain what this means exactly.

I didn’t think ahead and my electrician put my electricity meter box in a very unattractive, highly visible location next to the driveway. It cost me $600 to have him move it to the back of the house, and I was left with a big hole in my wall where the wires had been. Save yourself at least $600 and plan the location of the meter box ahead of time! The same is true for the outside air conditioning unit (condensing unit).

Familiarise yourself with the rapid development of snowboarding possibilities amongst the pros and improvement in finesse and ability – to unprecedented levels. Watch the X Games and Olympics or here’s some awesome footage from quality riders.

Watching these guys, it’s clear they have amazing skill and really good energy in their riding. Their heads are in the right place. They know where they are in space and they are able to physically perform the tasks as well as psychologically approach them.

These guys didn’t get there by accident, or mistake. They had, and get, a lot of coaching! If you want to improve dramatically, it’s almost impossible to rely on instinct and natural talent alone. Seek out instruction to hit at the root of your riding ability and build up your skills on a really strong base.

Blue Mile Snowsports specialise in coaching experienced riders who want to bring themselves closer to pro level or at least get off the all-too-common ability plateau.

Tips for starting renovating

October 20th, 2010

Anticipation:
You must develop your ability to anticipate problems before they arise. Simply imagine and think through each task before it occurs. For example, if the electrician is coming tomorrow, picture any impediments to her progress. Are there any plumbing pipes or objects blocking the work space? Where do I want the circuit breaker box? Where do I want the electrical meter to be on the outside of the house? What appliances will be drawing power? Just spend 15 minutes with a pen and paper and write down as many questions as you can.

Effort:
In order to get the best result, you can’t just hand over the keys to the contractors and expect them to read your mind. You have to direct them with precision and accuracy, and you must supervise their progress. Sometimes, you need to goad them along to finish quickly. Your satisfaction in the finished product will be a direct result of the amount of effort you exert during the process.

Negotiation:
Anyone in the real estate or construction business will tell you that most of what they do is negotiation. Negotiation doesn’t have to be conflict and confrontation. It is simply a matter of getting your needs met while meeting the interests of the contractors.

Handling Stress:
Renovation can be very stressful if you let it get to you. Stress occurs when you are worried about making costly mistakes. The information on this website will go a long way toward reducing the amount of errors that you make. Also, remember that nothing is irreversible, and every mistake can be corrected.
